Dubai-Senior batsman Azhar Ali struck 50 years as Pakistan achieved tea on 124-2 on the opening day of the second Test in Dubai on Saturday.

The previous skipper was unbeaten on 69 while Haris Sohail was 37 not out. They had included 99 after Pakistan had lost their initial two wickets for only 25 runs.

Pakistan, who won a vital hurl and batted, were hit hard by medium pacer Colin de Grandhomme's twofold strike in progressive overs in the main session, expelling openers Mohammad Hafeez and Imam-ul-Haq for nine each.

Azhar, who made a valiant 65 in Pakistan's restricted four-run vanquish in the main Test, was temperamental toward the begin as he edged the second ball he went head to head Grandhomme through the slips.

He at that point settled to play some energizing strokes, hitting seven limits and a six as he made his 31st fifty. Sohail had hit four limits by tea.

Grandhomme, favored over the more experienced Tim Southee for the second match running, gave New Zealand a perfect begin.

He had Hafeez gotten in the sneak past Tom Latham in the eighth over.

Hafeez has overseen only 66 keeps running in six innings since scoring a rebound hundred against Australia at a similar scene a month ago.

Imam, dropped on nine by Latham, fell in Grandhomme's next finished.

The two groups handled unaltered lineups, with Pakistan opposing the allurement of playing young fast Shaheen Shah Afridi.
